We set out targeting sheepshead using blackfish jigs tipped with frozen sand fleas, but the smaller fish kept stealing the bait before a sheepshead could commit. After about an hour, I switched over to a high-low rig with size 1 live bait hooks and immediately started catching fish—though most were undersized seabass and blackfish at first. Once I moved just off the heavy structure near the pilings, the porgies finally turned on. I managed to land five jumbo porgies, Eric picked up a nice one, and Zack stuck it out trying for sheepshead but didn’t have any luck this trip. All in all, it was a great day on the water with family and friends, plenty of action, and a nice catch to bring home for dinner. Stick around until the end to see the fillets!
