Deep inside Hellas Planitia — the highest-pressure region on Mars — a team of astronauts discovers a strange phenomenon: “Blue Frost,” shimmering at dawn on jagged black basalt. But as the sun rises and temperature climbs slightly, disaster hits—a massive dry-ice stalactite collapses, sealing the only exit of the canyon. Stranded between red dust and a -110°C ice cave, they’re forced to innovate. Using localized thermal pressurization, they trigger controlled sublimation to melt pathways and generate thrust in low gravity. Then comes the breakthrough: the Blue Frost isn’t just CO₂ ice—it traps traces of pure water vapor inside its crystal lattice. With a cone-shaped Cold Trap condenser, they sweep the frost and extract the first liquid water droplets—perfect spheres floating weightlessly before being pulled into a container. But hope turns violent. They electrolyze the captured water to create high-pressure oxygen—a temporary “rocket push” for a rescue drone to signal base. The heat spike sublimates the surrounding ice cave, building extreme pressure… blasting the astronauts backward toward a cliff. On Mars, there’s no audible explosion—only ragged breathing over comms.
