Jim and I went exploring the Norfolk Southern Mainline in northern Ohio. First we went to Vermillion, there are 2 lines here as well as the NS mainline the Bellevue to Cleveland line passes under the NS main. There are connectors to the west of Vermillion. As we drove over the NS main we saw headlights in the distance so stopped and hurried back to the crossing to catch the first train. Then we drove into town to the Railpark, there is plenty of parking and it has a nice view of the mainline. The trains come through here at speed, I felt I got a bit close to the oil train that goes through even though I was stood by the barrier. We then moved on to where the NS main crosses over the Bellevue to Cleveland line. We did see one train on here but I was on the hone to my Emma at the time so I didn't manage to film it. We saw another 3 trains on the mainline. We then started back towards Toledo, the first stop was Sandusky, opposite the Amtrak Depot, a coal train soon arrived passed by the depot and turned south to enter the yard. We gave chase with Jim navigating and me doing the driving, we found the train entering the yard, as a stack train passes by on the main. We then drove on to Sandusky Bay to catch a train going over the causeway, fortunately we didn't have to wait too long. The next spot was Oak Harbour on the NS main. Here the Bellevue to Toledo line passes over the main, there is a connector to allow east bound mainline trains to take the road to Bellevue. We saw a rock train heading west then a coal train took the connector and headed to Bellevue. After this we headed to Fremont on the line to Bellevue, we passed the coal train who was waiting for a north bound train to pass. We stopped in Fremont by the river to catch the train crossing the bridge. It soon arrived. We then went back to the car to wait for the coal train thinking it would take about 30 minutes for it to arrive, but 10 minutes later we heard another horn, a second northbound was coming, so we got that one too. By then the light was fading so we headed back to Toledo.
