SOUNDBITE: (English) Major General Geoffrey Miller, commander of prison: "We were going through this with senior members, this compound, this facility, with senior members of the Iraqi Governing Council and one of them said you should rename this 'Camp Redemption' as this sends the kind of message we the Iraqis think is true. So that afternoon we changed this from 'Camp Avalanche' to 'Camp Redemption'. This is all about a partnership, this is all about this transition to Iraqi sovereignty. We are going to do everything we can to make this transition as smooth as we can." 20. Exterior of medical centre 21. Pan of interior of medical centre 22. Humvee and troops in courtyard 23. The tour was led by the prison's commander Major General Geoffrey Miller. He recently took over the post when the story broke that American military police had sexually humiliated and abused Iraqi prisoners last autumn at the prison. He told reporters that the prison's name had been changed to "Camp Redemption", at the suggestion of the Iraqi Governing Council. Miller also vowed that similar incidents of abuse would not happen under his command. Already, three US soldiers are facing court martial on charges brought as a result of the scandal. Staff Sergeant Ivan Frederick II and Sergeant Javal S. Davis face arraignment on May 20. Davis has been charged with conspiracy to maltreat detainees, dereliction of duty for failing to protect detainees from abuse, maltreatment of detainees, rendering false official statements and assault. Frederick has been charged with conspiracy to maltreat detainees, dereliction of duty for negligibly failing to protect detainees from abuse, maltreatment of detainees, and wrongfully committing an indecent act by watching detainees commit a sexual act. At the arraignment, they will have to enter pleas of guilty or not guilty to the charges. No date or venue has been set for the trial. A third soldier, Specialist Jeremy C. Sivits, goes on trial on May 19 before a special court-martial, which cannot levy as severe a sentence as a general court-martial which Frederick and Davis face.
