Daniel Poovannathil's Christmas Retreat (Epiphany). Focus: Achieving a Divine Vision (Isaiah) & becoming a true worshipper (Mary). [Day 1 Task: Spend 10 mins quietly listening to God.] ----------------------- The central theme of this Christmas preparation retreat is the call to move beyond ritualistic preparation to seek a Divine Vision and become a True Worshipper. 1. The Call for a Divine Vision The goal of this 25-day journey is to experience God alive, not just the physical image of the Infant Jesus in the crib. The foundation of this desire is found in the Prophet Isaiah. Isaiah received all major prophecies about Jesus (Immanuel, Future King, Suffering Servant) only after he had a direct, spiritual vision of God in Chapter 6. When we truly see God, three vital realizations occur: Who God Is: We understand His absolute Holiness. Who We Are: We realize our own sinful state and brokenness. Our Calling: We respond to God's question, "Whom shall I send?" with the willingness to serve: "Here am I. Send me." We must pray with the deep desire: "Lord, I want to see you." 2. The Marks of a True Worshipper Many pray, but few truly worship. Worship is an internal act that flows from recognizing God's magnitude. Mary of Bethany serves as the perfect model for a true worshipper, exhibiting three key traits: A. The Willingness to Listen (The Feet) Worshipper's Action: Mary sits at Jesusโ feet, not asking, but listening. The Lesson: A true worshipper is eager to hear from God, not just talk to Him. Prayer is a two-way conversation, and the worshipper prioritizes Godโs voice. B. Spiritual Composure (The Maturity) Worshipper's Action: When Jesus arrived after Lazarusโ death, Martha ran out, but Mary remained sitting at home. The Lesson: A true worshipper possesses spiritual maturity and composure (stillness). They are not emotionally swayed or prone to chasing every new spiritual excitement, resting assured in their deep, personal relationship with Christ. C. Giving Without Counting (The Generosity) Worshipper's Action: Mary poured out expensive perfume, caring nothing for the cost. Judas was the one who kept the financial account. The Lesson: A worshipper serves and gives without keeping a count or complaining. Their only regret is, "What I gave was not enough." 3. Day 1 Practical Task To move toward this Divine Vision and true worship, the retreat requires a concrete action: Action: Find a quiet, solitary place (preferably before sleep), set aside all distractions (especially mobile phones), and sit silently. Time: A minimum of 10 minutes (maximum one hour). Focus: Sit with the conscious, intense desire to see and hear God, praying, "Lord, speak to me." This act of listening is the first step toward the spiritual growth necessary to truly experience Christ this Christmas. Final Prayer Good Lord, I pray for everyone watching this episode today. May we spiritually grow a lot during these 25 days, and may many of the evils in our lives be removed. Lord, if there are areas of sin that we have long struggled to get out of, may an anointing be revealed in us during these 25 days to receive complete liberation from that evil. O Lord God, please help us in these 25 days to come out of the areas of sin where we have struggled and failed for years. May our souls grow to a higher standard as we go through this penance and reflection. Also, Lord, there are many issues that hurt and burden us; good God, take all of them up. May the Lord take up and resolve the tears in the lives of these children. I offer this prayer in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
