To honor Boston's lead singer Tommy DeCarlo, who passed away today ironically on the same day original Boston lead singer Brad Delp—the guy he replaced—died in 2007, here is a montage I made of Boston's classic "More Than a Feeling" with video of both Brad and Tommy singing to the original song. Brad Delp was considered one of the greatest singers ever, and when he tragically passed away in 2007, Tommy, who was a huge Boston fan, rose from the aisles of a North Carolina Home Depot after writing and recording an original song about Brad. His daughter suggested that he put it on his MySpace, and after they sent the link to Boston's management, he soon got the job replacing his idol. It was the American dream; he went from being a credit manager at Home Depot to the lead singer of his favorite band. Boston toured on and off since then with Tommy on lead, and he also toured with my all-time favorite singer from Chicago, Jason Scheff. "More Than a Feeling" has been one of my favorite songs since I was little when my dad and I would work out to it—it gives me chills every time. There is just something about this song that nothing can compare. It has a way about it that gives me goosebumps and it's one of the most innovative and unique sounds ever. No other band could ever duplicate this sound. Original guitarist Tom Scholz, a mechanical engineer, created that distinct Boston sound in his basement, playing almost all the instruments himself. The song is about losing people close to us and how music can connect to them and bring back our past just by hearing it, which it always does for me by taking me back to the old days. Now that we have unfortunately lost both Brad and Tommy, whenever I hear it, I will always think of them both singing it. Thank you, Brad and Tommy—you truly are more than a feeling! #boston #tommydecarlo #braddelp #morethanafeeling #classicrock #guitar #70s
