Let's officially start the next book read on my channel - Suzanne Finstad's 1997 book - "Child Bride" The Untold Story of Priscilla Beaulieu Presley! Let's set the stage for the book with the author's Prologue and Chapter 1- but first - Why did the author endeavor to write this book in the first place? Simple. Before "Child Bride" - The ONLY biography of Priscilla Presley out in the media and culture was Priscilla's own 1985 autobiography of her life with Elvis Presley - the worldwide sensation "Elvis and Me." However, it was a very narrow and one sided perception of Priscilla and her orgin story - with NO accounts or interviews (other than Priscilla's own narrative) to counter or substantiate her origin story and legend. This book aims to right this- with over 2 years of methodical research and interviews with over 300 people who knew Priscilla at different stages of her (then) 5 decade life, it shatters the engrained, established Priscilla Presley "myth" like no other book has, before or since. In 2025, Priscilla Presley published another memoir chronicling her life with Elvis called "Softly As I Leave You" - and many critics complained that this book was just another one of her guarded rehashed narratives she has been telling about her life- in dozens of interviews since the the mid 1980s. Some would argue that "Child Bride" is as relevant today as it was in 1997 when it was published - particularly when you pair it along side the numerous and troubling headlines that Priscilla Presley has been involved with in 2025 - right up to the present day.
