Powering up my 30 year old HP41CV programmable calculator

This calculator has been sitting in my cupboard for well over 15 years unused.... I finally found some batteries for it (N size) and live video'd the powering up to see if it would still work... There is a story behind this particular calculator (apart from a similar one being flown to the Moon many years back as a backup for the landing computers). My father bought it for me when I was at university (this was in 1983 before we all had desktop computers) and after university when I was doing service with our police force, my colleagues often wanted to know what shift they'd be working on Christmas day. So I wrote a program on it to quickly tell them. A while after that our Commanding Officer called me in and said the police were starting up a new computer unit in our city and I should certainly get a transfer there, which launched the next phase of my career back then! #vintage #retro #calculator #HP41CV #programmablecalculator #HP #engineering
