He installs it in Toad Hall with the aid of a very worried Mole, who points out that he won’t be able to ring Mole End, as Mole hasn’t got a telephone. Toad rapidly returns to the Weasel’s den, and to the Chief Weasel’s flee, purchases three more telephones at a high price –one for Mr Rat, one for Mr Mole and one for Mr Badger. His problems aren’t over yet, however, as Rat points out that of course Toad still hasn’t been able to make a ‘phone call because he hasn’t put up any telephone WIRES!!’ Acutely embarrassed, Toad yet again returns to the Weasels to purchase two and a half miles of gubba-percher covered copper wire at five shillings per hundred and ten yards. The final stage in Toad’s Telephone craze is electrifying!
