0:00 - Intro 0:25 - Importance of Positions 0:45 - Positions for French Ring 1:12 - Touch Pads 1:56 - Positions Box 2:16 - Displacement Issues In this episode of Behind The Stick TABS, Miles Narnor discusses the importance of Positions (Sit, Down, Stand) for Ring Sports like French Ring, Mondio Ring and Belgian Ring. In French Ring, dogs are required to perform the Change of Positions exercise for Levels 1 through Level 3. The dog is positioned 18 meters away while the handler commands the dog to take positions (Sit, Down, Stand) from that distance. The dog has to perform it's positions twice and afterwards it is recalled back to the handler verbally or with a whistle. Positions are not only important as a stand alone exercise as they can account for 20 points, but they are importance in general as the dog has to maintain set positions before each exercise. Touch pads, positions boxes and other training tools are used to help the dog build muscle memory, spatial awareness and avoid creeping forwards as most dogs have the tendency to do.
