Here's the most complete and intact version of this oddball release, which has been dismissed by many over the years for some of its nightmarish contents. I'm uploading this specifically because I have noticed that every other version that has been on Youtube for the past 10+ years has audio glitches, which come from corrupted digital files that are NOT present on the actual release. These glitches make the album unlistenable to me and I find the thought that due to this error there are now entire generations of Frusciante fans that have never heard intact versions of some of his best songs just mind-boggling. For starters: this "album" has always been just a compilation of recordings from various points in time that John put out in 1997 for drug money. It consists of outtakes from his previous album, Niandra Lades & Usually Just a T-Shirt, which was recorded many years earlier, one very old track recorded when he was 17 years old as well as the very few, very low quality recordings from the time of his heroin addiction. The tracks belonging to the latter category are the reason why this CD is usually disregarded. But once you understand its context and listen to the other tracks, you may find that this is some of John's best stuff from the early years. My favorite Niandra tracks by far are the ones that are on Smile. 00:00 Enter A Uh 08:06 The Other 09:40 Life's A Bath 11:20 A Fall Through The Ground 13:44 Poppy Man 15:05 I May Again Know John 23:52 I'm Always 26:25 N**ger Song 30:44 Femininity 33:19 Breathe 39:41 More 41:48 For Air 45:43 Height Down (feat. River Phoenix) 49:42 Well I've Been (feat. River Phoenix) 52:48 Smile From The Streets You Hold 57:57 I Can't See Until I Can See Your Eyes 59:27 Estress "Life's A Bath" includes an extended intro from the second pressing of the CD, which has an inferior sound quality.
