We do not like decay, but how do we deal with it? In the Netherlands we do not like decay. If an old building does not get a monument status, it's ripe for demolition. But because a completely landed and cleaned country also gives us the shakes, we make room for exceptions. The island of Tiengemeten is returned to nature. Tourists are guided around to see natural decay. There must be places that are authentic, as authentic as the 1930s home with the stained-glass windows in which so many still live. A former factory director cherishes the memories of his factory, whois now abandoned and decaying. And then there is also our fight against the physical decline, which takes on ever bigger forms. We go running in masses, as if time is on our heels. Decay may come, but it should not get too close to us. The Netherlands from above shows us a country from a spectacular perspective. From the sky it is possible to see how the Netherlands changes through the seasons, and how in parallel they form the determining moments of our own life cycle.
