Devotees chant it so that their journey through life remains free from danger, obstacles, and unseen forces. Verse 1 I bow to Kala Bhairava, the Lord of Kashi, whose sacred lotus feet are worshipped even by Indra. He wears a serpent as His sacred thread, bears the crescent moon on His head, and is the embodiment of compassion. Revered by Narada and great yogis, He stands clothed in the directions, beyond worldly limitations. Verse 2 I praise the radiant Lord who shines like millions of suns and frees beings from the cycle of birth and death. Blue-throated, three-eyed, and supreme, He grants righteous desires. He is beyond time itself, the destroyer of death, and the eternal one. Verse 3 I worship Him who holds the trident, drum, noose, and staff of discipline. He is the primal cause of creation, ash-smeared, imperishable, free from all dualities. The mighty Lord who delights in the cosmic Tandava. Verse 4 I bow to the bestower of both worldly fulfillment and liberation. Beloved of devotees, steady and yet manifesting in countless forms, He sustains the universe. His form is adorned with a golden waist belt that resounds with divine rhythm. Verse 5 I salute the guardian of righteousness who destroys unrighteous paths and frees us from the bondage of karma. Splendid and majestic, He protects dharma and uplifts the devotee. Verse 6 I worship the eternal Lord whose golden sandals shine brilliantly. Desireless yet fulfilling the desires of devotees, He is beyond death and pride. By His grace, the soul attains liberation. Verse 7 I bow to Him whose fierce roar dissolves cosmic illusion. His compassionate glance destroys sins. The powerful Lord who grants the eight siddhis and wears a garland of skulls as a reminder of impermanence. Verse 8 I praise the ancient ruler of spirits and protector of Kashi, who absolves devotees of accumulated karma. He reveals the path of righteousness and governs the universe with timeless authority. Phala Shruti (Benefit of Recitation) Whoever recites these eight verses with devotion gains knowledge, detachment, and liberation. The hymn removes grief, anger, greed, fear, and ignorance, and draws the devotee closer to the feet of Shiva in the form of Kala Bhairava.
