She Advances Brain Health The Lundbeck Foundation has awarded a 2025 Fellowship to Assistant Professor Lisa Riedmayr at the Department of Biotechnology and Biomedicine, DTU Bioengineering, Technical University of Denmark (DTU). Over the next five years, she will receive a grant of DKK 10 million to develop cutting-edge tools for brain health, neuroscience, and precision genetic medicine. Precision Gene Editing for Safer Treatments: Riedmayr’s research focuses on creating highly specific molecular tools to improve CRISPR-based gene editing. Her goal is to make genetic therapies more effective and selective, reducing harmful “off-target effects” and targeting only the cells affected by disease. This breakthrough could transform treatments for hereditary neurological disorders. Targeting Rare Childhood Epilepsy: With her Lundbeck Foundation Fellowship, Riedmayr will first tackle Developmental and Epileptic Encephalopathy (DEE), a rare and severe genetic disease in children. Success in this project could open the door to treatments for a wide range of brain-related conditions. Strengthening Danish Neuroscience: By building her research group at DTU, Lisa Riedmayr is advancing Danish research in neuroscience and brain health, helping to bring safe genetic medicines from the lab to patients worldwide.
