The two-needle cast on is a simple variation of the long tail cast on and it creates a much stretchier edge perfect for ribbings on lace patterns. In its easiest form, it only means holding two knitting needles parallel. But you can also separate the half-hitch part from the knit stitch part and cast on each part on different needles. Note: Do not confuse the two-needle cast on with the knitted cast on. The latter may require two needles as well but it does not create a stretchy edge.
