This video begins with fragments. Bowie’s Aladdin Sane. Atomic Rooster’s Death Walks Behind You. Caetano Veloso’s Transa. At first, they seem unrelated. Different countries. Different decades. Different scenes. But a single melodic tension runs through all of them — a piano figure that feels uneasy, circular, unresolved. From there, the film moves backward. Into birdsong. Into studies showing that many bird calls follow harmonic structures shared with human music. Into composers who listened closely enough to translate those patterns into melody. Into Jobim and the song of the sabiá. Into Caetano, exile, and a voice shaped by the sound of a bird from Bahia. Into Bowie, Mike Garson, and an improvisation that changed his life overnight — without him fully understanding why. Along the way, the video touches on classical music, neuroscience, coincidence, and repetition. Birds that sing the same melodies for thousands or even millions of years. Birds forced to change their songs because of urban noise. Music that feels discovered rather than invented. The question underneath everything is simple and unresolved: was music created, or was it organized? How birdsongs turn into music is not an explanation. It’s a trail of echoes. Albums and works referenced in the video Antônio Carlos Jobim Matita Perê (1973) One of Jobim’s most explicit engagements with birdsong as melodic structure. Rather than imitation, Jobim studied the phrasing and intervals of Brazilian birds — especially the sabiá — and organized them harmonically. Listen: • Видео https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matita_... Antonio Vivaldi The Four Seasons (1725) In Spring, birdsong is written directly into the score. Vivaldi assigns specific figures to birds, not symbolically but programmatically — an early example of nature translated into musical gesture. He transcribed them. He traveled, listened, notated rhythms and intervals, and later organized those songs for piano and orchestra. A foundation of what would later be called zoomusicology.
