The Henschel Hs 126 was one of the most important reconnaissance and artillery spotting aircraft of the early Second World War. While overshadowed by famous fighters and bombers, this German single-engine high-wing monoplane played a vital role in directing artillery fire, scouting enemy positions, and supporting ground forces during the campaigns in Poland, France, the Balkans, and on the Eastern Front. Developed in the mid-1930s, the Hs 126 combined a strong all-metal airframe with excellent short takeoff and landing performance. It carried cameras, radios, and light armament, making it a versatile platform for tactical reconnaissance. Although its slow speed and weak defensive weapons made it vulnerable to modern fighters, it served in large numbers until newer aircraft replaced it.
