Supreme Court rejects appeal by Derek Chauvin in George Floyd case

The US Supreme Court on Monday rejected an appeal by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin who was convicted for second-degree murder for the death of George Floyd. Chauvin’s legal team requested the nation’s highest court take up his case as they argue he was denied a fair trial in 2021 because of prejudicial pre-trial publicity and the threat of violence and riots in the event he was acquitted. Investigative journalist Liz Collin joined Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi to talk about the appeal being rejected and her new Alpha News documentary ‘The Fall of Minneapolis’ which aims to uncover the truth about George Floyd’s death and former police officer Derek Chauvin’s trial. “The attorneys … were hopeful that something would happen at the level of the US Supreme Court, but they also knew this was a pretty long shot after everything that’s been allowed to happen,” she said. “This trial … wasn’t really about what jurors were allowed to see, but what was kept from them. “There are a couple more legal maneuvers that they hope to make in the coming weeks.”
