A hidden treasure on the river Shannon every boater should see... Episode #11

In this episode I share some of the Shannon's secrets with you and primarily some hideaways in the inner lakes. The river Shannon is full of secret little hideaways that you only come across if you really take your time and with the help of some local knowledge too. These are the sort of locations that you will remember for many years after much of your Shannon holiday is just a distant memory. We start our journey at Coosan point which is at the southern end of Lough Ree. Then we head through the inner lakes to Glasson Golf Club before slipping quietly across the lake to Ballykeeran lake. But to access Ballykeeran lake we first have to pass through a narrow passage through the reeds. While most people on their boating holiday will want to cover as many miles as they can. The wiser boater takes the time to explore the little hideaways like this. In Ballykeeran lake it's possible to anchor or tie onto the mooring buoy. There is a pub near by called The Dog & Duck, you can check out their facebook page through the link below. Next we head through another little cutting that brings us into Coosan Lough. All in all it’s a lovely trip and one that I hope you will repeat yourself one day. The inner lakes are a series of small lakes (and some larger ones too) that are separated from Lough Ree by a small cutting that runs between Killinure Point and Coosan Point. At Coosan point there is a pub The Lough Ree Inn and I can testify that the food is very good indeed. And not too expensive. As far as I know last orders are at 6pm so just be mindful of that.
