Time to enjoy a really scenic and spectacular drive from the municipality of Hope to the village of Lytton along the Fraser Canyon Highway in British Columbia. We are driving along Highway 1, also known as the Trans-Canada Highway. This section follows the path of the Fraser River along the canyon, hence derives its name as the Fraser Canyon Highway. Most eastbound vehicular traffic uses Highway 5 (the Coquihalla), which is a faster and direct route to Kamloops and further east. Therefore you will see quite a less number of vehicles on this route. We begin in Hope and soon turn onto the highway. We cross over the Fraser River for the first time immediately after leaving Hope. The first section of the drive till the town of Yale is quite flat and not too exciting. The Canadian Pacific (CP) railway line can be seen alongside us on our right. Beyond the railway is the Fraser River itself and on the opposite bank of the river is the Canadian National (CN) railway line. After passing through Yale, the canyon narrows and the scenery is just too beautiful. Shortly after passing through the first nation community of Spuzzum, we cross over the Fraser River once more, on the New Alexandra Bridge. Sometime later we pass Hells Gate, which is known for one of the narrowest points of the canyon, forcing the river to be barely 35 metres wide at that point. We then pass through the unincorporated town of Boston Bar. Between Yale and Boston Bar, there are 7 tunnels along the highway, all of which are named in the video. We continue winding up the canyon after Boston Bar. After a while we begin a short but steep climb up to the summit of Jackass Mountain. The view from the top (cannot be seen in the video) was spectacular. We descend on the other side and pass through a couple of First Nation communities before finally approaching the village of Lytton. We turn off the Highway 1 onto Highway 12 for a few minutes before ending the journey at a gas station. The video has been fast forwarded to twice the actual speed. Also, please note that I do not own the music in the video. Hope you enjoy the scenic drive as much as I did. Date of video: March 26, 2025
