In the first episode of our Editor’s Corner Series, Tanya Buchanan, Editor-In-Chief of Belle and Australian House & Garden, interviews William Smart, Creative Director of Smart Design Studio. Fated for this career path, his penchant for drawing and creating as a young boy incited his affection for design and architecture. At present, Smart is the director and owner of Smart Design Studio, one of Australia’s most well-established firms. Despite briefly toying with the idea of becoming a Car Designer, he considered the ways in which Architecture would allow him to travel and to create meaningful spaces, both publicly and privately. In this episode, Smart explains his design ethos of conceptualising a project from the inside out, and how his experiences have informed his practices.
