Information Sharing Under the YCOC: Understanding Yaris

Maritime security efforts in the Gulf of Guinea have long been characterized by complexities centered on inadequate information sharing and coordination mechanisms. The Yaoundé Architecture Regional Information System (YARIS) can be a useful tool for facilitating the sharing and dissemination of relevant and timely maritime security information the region; however, its enduring success depends on not only on the collaborative input of all relevant stakeholders, but also on a clear understanding of the platform and its functioning. This brief interview intends to harness a collective understanding of YARIS, including its scope, its relevance to enhancing maritime security in the region and some of the challenges to its effective use within the Yaoundé Architecture.
