I grew up living with my mom, because my parents had separated. I was like the poster child homeschooled Christian kid. My experience growing up was just very sheltered that way. In sixth grade, actually, was my first time I stepped into a public school. You know, you just start getting different influences, different lifestyles. For me, one of those things, I remember kind of being introduced to pornography. From that stage on, it was like something that I, that just had me, that hooked me, that I just kept going deeper and deeper into. It became this addiction. My addiction. So fast forward a little bit. I graduated high school, I was still leading worship in my church, I was leading worship in multiple churches around the community. One of my friends, Adam, he actually was the best man at my wedding. I had this breakdown moment and this exposure moment of kind of confessing to him what had been going on, the things that I was struggling with. And I remember actually the shame being so heavy that I just stopped, stopped communicating with Tori as a whole. I didn’t call her for like a week. Adam ended up telling her kind of what was going on. All I wanted to do was hide. I was pushing everybody away. All my friends, my family, and obviously the person that meant the most to me. And that’s when I knew I had a choice to make. So I made a choice to just be honest and to cling to grace. I was on my knees, literally, in front of the one that I loved the most, sharing the thing that was the hardest to share. Out of that brokenness and surrender, just that one moment of surrender, the Lord completely just met me with grace and with hope and with healing and with help. I was able to chose to stop running and hiding. The thing that I learned in the process was the truth will set you free. There’s this element, this lie, of shame that doesn’t exist with God. But, when we’re honest with him and we just bring it out, like, grace is greater than our sin, his grace is greater than our sin.
