On 6 January 1994, the leader of Israel's right-wing Likud Party, Benjamin Netanyahu, spoke to ITN's Liz Donnelly about his reasons for opposing ongoing peace talks between Israel's Labor government and the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO). Just months before, Israeli and Palestinian representatives had signed the first of the Oslo Accords, acknowledging each other as negotiating partners in a process aimed at establishing a lasting peace in the region. Soon after, however, the peace process was meeting opposition from hardline elements within Israeli and Palestinian society. In Israel, Netanyahu argued that PLO leader Yasser Arafat was not holding up his end of the bargain and that the landmark agreement was therefore void. #Netanyahu #BenjaminNetanyahu #Israel #Likud #Gaza #Palestine #PLO #Hamas #1990s #IsraelPalestineConflict To license the footage featured in this clip, follow the link below: https://www.gettyimages.co.uk/search/...
