PICC, Pasay City November 7, 2024 President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. honors the distinguished history of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) as he leads its 74th birthday celebration at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City on November 7, 2024. Carrying the theme, '74 Years of Standing Ready to Answer the Call: To Protect the Nation and Maintain To Be the Most Ready Force of the AFP,' today’s event commemorates a legacy that has endured for nearly three-quarters of a century. It also reflects the unyielding spirit of the PMC and the dauntless courage that defines every marine soldier. As part of the momentous occasion, President Marcos Jr. confers awards to eight (8) individuals and two-unit awardees who have excelled in their service to the Organization. He also leads the cake-cutting ceremony that symbolizes the PMC’s unwavering commitment to defending the nation. The PMC was established under Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) General Orders No. 319, effective 2 November 1950. This order authorized the creation of Alpha Company of the 1st Marine Battalion as a unit of the Philippine Naval Patrol, later known as the Philippine Navy (PN), whose aim is to create a light and hard-hitting seaborne force that strikes lawless elements along the vast coastline of the Philippine archipelago.
