When AI can generate art, text, and music, what’s left for human creativity? In this witty, eye-opening talk, cognitive scientist and artist Brian Magerko explores what happens when machines learn to improvise with us — from failed attempts to make Santa hold a taco to a world-first dance between humans and an AI partner. His takeaway: the magic of creativity isn’t in the code, it’s in the collaboration. Through his pioneering research Brian Magerko is redefining the boundaries of human-AI collaboration, making technology a true partner in the creative process. Brian is a Regents Professor of digital media at Georgia Tech, where he explores the intersection of creativity, cognition and artificial intelligence. As head of the Expressive Machinery Lab, his interdisciplinary research examines how human and machine cognition can merge to foster innovative human- computer creative experiences. Brian is the co-creator of EarSketch, a groundbreaking music-based learning platform that has engaged more than 160,000 learners worldwide in computer science education. His extensive body of work, comprising more than 100 peer-reviewed articles, has been featured in The New Yorker, USA Today and NPR. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
