Did Bear Circle Back?

On Friday, April 11th, the world lost a stand-up guy who positively impacted all the lives he touched. Joe was flawed. He was human. He was a son, a brother, uncle, friend, and someone who wanted everyone to succeed, regardless of personalities. Addiction is a rapacious creditor that will take and take and take. It will never be satiated. Joe has returned to the state of nonbeing. Although I will miss my friend, I hope he’s found peace. In Buddhism, enso circles represent impermanence and the void of nothingness and possibility. Maples symbolize the idea of ‘anicca’, reminding people of the transience of life. The enso circle was done in a wave as I was thinking about the teachings of Buddhist monk, Thich Nhat Hanh, who wrote about a wave knowing its nature is both that of a wave and of water. Waves are definable, quantifiable. Water is more nebulous and free. While we need structure and predictability in our lives (the wave), we must also be grounded in the true nature of our free selves (the water). It seemed fitting. Energy cannot be destroyed nor created… only transformed.
