It is apparent that the world is a fragmented place, we can all agree on that. The planet that we share is divided into boundaries, completely imaginary, made real by the construction of fences and other fortifications designed as defenses against intruders. Much of the bloodshed that we create is in defense of these imaginary boundaries. And we can probably also agree if we have learned a thing or two, that these borders and boundaries exist within ourselves as well, manifesting as separate individuals with all our inner turmoil, and that these two fragmentations are inextricably linked. “You are the world”, as Krishnamurti says. And the journey of self-awareness begins. Or does it? Is self-knowledge too difficult? Is the price of freedom too high? Are we missing something? I will present what I feel are the two main aspects of Krishnamurti’s teachings that are most easily misunderstood and, if clarified, can remove a great deal of frustration, stuckness, and wasted effort. Of course, this has been hard-earned on my part, but if I have learned a thing or two myself, perception is not the result of frustration, stuckness, and wasted effort, rather it is the transformation of these characteristics of self-consciousness into self-awareness. And this is where we begin. John Duncan has been involved with the Krishnamurti Foundation for several decades. After first seeing Krishnamurti speak in 1984, he attended the first dialogue retreats and May Gatherings beginning in 1986. Following many personal retreats in Ojai, he moved there in the late 1990s and began working for the Krishnamurti Foundation of America. He was proofreading for Krishnamurti Publications at a time when many books were being put back into print, including the entire Collected Works, which deepened his interaction with the teachings. Working in the Krishnamurti Library and facilitating countless dialogues has rounded out his education into what Krishnamurti has shared with us. He looks forward to sharing some of that with you at this year’s May Gathering. -------------------- The Future of Humanity | Mark Habeeb & Kevin Popp https://www.youtube.com/live/BHiVOUqf...
