It's another 1920s dress! I was a pattern tester for the new #RoaringAndSwinging exhibit at the Museum at FIT. I made the Welmade Dress, which is based off of an original antique dress from the late 1920s, as part of the Plus Pattern Project. The exhibition compares the fashions and social movements of the 1920s and 1960s, and it features some amazing pieces from the MFIT collection. My dress pattern is part of the Plus Pattern Project, which showcases five extant 1920s dresses, each with free patterns available for download through the exhibition website (see link below). I'd love to see what you all make! See the exhibition: https://exhibitions.fitnyc.edu/roarin... Get the patterns: https://exhibitions.fitnyc.edu/roarin... See other pattern testers' amazing versions of these dresses on social media by searching via the exhibition hashtag: #RoaringAndSwinging Thanks to @kennasews for the opportunity to test this pattern and make a video about the process. CORRECTION ON END CREDITS: The extant dress is from the collection of @thehouseofwhyte. (It's listed incorrectly in the video.) I wear a US size L (12-14). My version of this dress required 4 yds of 58" wide wool blend, which came from my stash. For the belt, I used 2 yards of middy braid. For the underwaist, I used 1.5 yards of 44” wide cotton and 2 yards of lace seam binding. I bound the armscyes with rayon bias tape. All materials were thrifted and came from my stash. DON’T MISS the video tutorial by Maria at Historical Garments. It’s an excellent overview of this project using a scaled down version of the pattern.
