RECIPE: 2 pounds hamburger 1 onion 1 clove garlic 2 15z cans of petite diced tomatoes (or 1 large can) 2 15z cans of dark red kidney beans, drained 1 15z can of light red kidney beans, drained 1 15z can of pinto beans, drained 1 large jar of tomato juice (32z or more) Chili powder - 1/4 to 1/2 cup, depending on your heat preference Cumin - 2 to 5 Tablespoons, depending on your heat preference Don't forget your cornbread mix and a block of cheese! Macaroni or spaghetti if your fam likes it that way! Brown hamburger in large stock pot with onion until hamburger is done and onions are clear; add minced garlic and stir for 1 minute. Add tomatoes and beans, then begin with the lower amounts of chili powder and cumin. You can always add more, but it's very hard to take away heat once it's in there! Add tomato juice to the top of the beans/hamburger mixture and bring to a boil, then turn to simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Taste test -- does it need more chili powder or cumin? Add as needed, and continue to simmer for another 20 minutes. Taste again, and then simmer another 20 minutes.
