By", "until" and “by the time” are time prepositions used to indicate specific points in time or deadlines, but they are used in slightly different ways: 1. By: • Definition: "By" is used to specify a point in time before which something should be completed or an action should be taken. • Usage: When you use "by," you are setting a deadline, and the action can occur at any time up to and including the specified time. • Example: "Please submit your assignment by Friday." This means you can submit the assignment at any time before Friday, including on Friday itself. 2. Until/till: • Definition: "Until" is used to specify a point in time up to which an action or state continues. It implies that the action or state will stop or change after that time. • Usage: When you use "until," you are focusing on a time frame that extends up to a specific moment but does not include that moment. • Example: "The store is open until 9 PM." This means the store remains open and will close at 9 PM. 3. By the time: In the video, I explain how 'By the time' is used for a fixed point in the future or the past. There is an exercise at the end of the video for you to practise.
