Learn more at: https://uvahealth.com/findadoctor/Reb... Transcript My name is Rebecca Rieck. I'm one of the maternal fetal medicine physicians within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. I'm a maternal fetal medicine physician, which means I take care of high risk obstetric patients. This may be patients with medical complications that influence the care of their pregnancy or those with a prior pregnancy history that changes the care for this current pregnancy. Growing up, I always thought I wanted to be an oncologist because that's what I was most familiar with. However, when I hit medical school, I did my rotation at OBGYN and loved the ability to help create families. I particularly found high risk obstetrics attractive because it gives me the ability to help women have the family that they never thought they could have because their medical conditions or help them through a particularly difficult pregnancy and get them someplace they've never thought they could be. One of the things that brought me to UVA, and I think is a big draw for patients to UVA is the patient-centered care. Our maternal fetal medicine clinic is located in the children's outpatient center, so when patients come to our clinic, they go to one place to see everybody versus going to many different places. And this extends to other care because the level of collaboration between us and all the other physicians in this hospital is above any place else I've ever worked.
