At the final moment on the cross, Jesus says, “It is finished,” proclaiming the fulfillment of God’s mission and the beginning of a new era. What does it mean for us to live in that era, when the world is still longing for healing? We experience the story of the crucifixion for the sixth of the seven Sundays of our Easter series culminating in Jesus’ final words, “It is finished.” The story of Jesus’ passion, informed by the imagery of the “suffering servant” found in the Hebrew prophets and Psalms, culminates in his death on the cross. This story of God’s willingness to enter creation, to fully experience the human condition, and to offer himself up as an infinite sacrifice on our behalf is the ultimate expression of God’s compassion, that God is love. This same God is still at work in the world. As we experience this story together, we will ask ourselves, how does Jesus’ example inform our mission today? Beyond the Walls – It Is Finished. We invite you to share this hour of reflection, prayer, meditation, music, and fellowship with the Beyond the Walls global community on 📅 Sunday, April 13, 2025. About Our Easter Series (March 3 - April 20) When we follow the Lectionary, the Passion is mostly skipped. We go from Palm Sunday to Easter in just one week, and as a result, we miss one of the most important parts of the story of Jesus. Instead, on Beyond the Walls, we will share the sacred story of the Passion of Jesus Christ over the six Sundays leading up to Easter, when we celebrate the resurrection.
