Abstract: Objective: To observe the nutrition management and outcome of post-operative chyle leakage (CL) oncology patients. Background: Post-operative CL is rare. Conservative nutrition intervention (CNI) with parenteral nutrition (PN) and medium chain triglyceride (MCT) based low fat enteral nutrition (EN) is the main treatment although PN and MCT formula are expensive. Method: Data of 26 CL patients were retrospectively studied from hospital medical records and analyzed by SPSS©17v. Results: 13(50%), 11(42%), 2(8%) were post-operative patients of gastrointestinal, head-neck and gynecology department respectively. 6.5, 8days, 14days were mean post-operative CL onset day, duration of CL management, post-surgery length of hospital-stay respectively - all managed by CNI. 81% patients were managed solely with Low cost EN intervention (LCNI) (Low fat natural food, high protein supplement with/without MCT oil) successfully. Conclusion: CL can be managed with LCNI. A formal prospective study is planned to see the effectiveness of LCNI compared to its expensive alternatives.
