The third stage returned to its hometown, Oropesa del Mar, to face the longest stage of the edition, with 82 km and 1,415 meters of elevation gain. A day that was shaping up to be one of the last great chances to test the solidity of the elite men leader, David Valero. Concha beach welcomed more than 700 riders, who were ready to enjoy this classical Mediterranean Epic route, with its usual climbs and trails but with important changes on its second half. Outlining the Mediterranean coast, the never ending group started to roll heading north, to leave the fastest at the foot of their first climb, named as GARMIN section. The route, with a demanding combination of technical trails and long fast tracks, made the fact of staying on the leading group a privilege. The initial group started to lose members as kilometers passed by and the first big news of the day came with the withdrawal of Czech rider Martin Stosek, who suffered an accident that forced him to abandon the race. Valero and Alleman were the main characters of the day, with constant attacks and responses that shaped up the front group. The Spaniard tried his luck with a long-range attack that only Alleman could respond to. The Belgian rider saved his strength to counter attack just before the finish line, with a sprint that served him to claim his second stage win. In the last meters, the Norwegian rider Osten Brovold took second place and the British rider Charlie Aldridge completed the podium. In the elite women category, a conservative approach to the race by Natalia Fischer was expected, and that is what she did. The rider, after her advantage from the previous stage, was able to save energy and keep a close eye on her rivals. However, MTB leaves no room for distractions and Fischer got a taste of it since she fell after touching another rider’s wheel. Natalia later managed to reach the front group and cross the finish line ahead of Hannah Otto, although behind Rosa Van Doorn.
