History - St Kenelm's Church, is one of only nine churches in the country dedicated to St. Kenelm, an Anglo-Saxon saint, two of which are now abandoned. This church is a fairly typical Victorian estate church, built entirely at the expense of Sir Richard who lived nearby in ‘Gaunt's House’. The style is lightly Norman and it was completed in 1860. Sir Richard later completely rebuilt the medieval church but incorporated some twelfth century fragments into its architecture. Sir Richard used stone in the neo-romanesque style which still remains today. To celebrate Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee in 1897, stained glass windows, a lectern, a new font and a chalice were presented to the church by Sir Richard. For many years the building acted as a chapel for a nearby School, but sadly the church is now redundant, abandoned and rapidly falling into disrepair. Over the west door is a 12th century sculpture of an angel holding a book to his breast standing next to a giant butterfly. It has been suggested that this is a representation of Kenelm himself. Sadly it cannot be viewed today as the church is locked and abandoned, and parts of the churchyard so overgrown that the monuments beneath have all but been reclaimed by Mother Nature. In recent years this church has been used for Satanic rituals, Satanic worship, and sacrifices. Since its abandonment this church has become a tour bus affect for all individuals within the Satanic relm. DISCLAIMER - I do not force entry into any of the sites or locations I visit.
