Justin Wu is an incoming freshman at Stanford University from San Diego, California. Starting his musical journey with the violin at the age of five, he switched to the cello in fifth grade and has been in love with the instrument ever since. Justin won the Grand Prize at the International Academy of Music Competition in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Italy in 2023. He was also the recipient of first prize awards at the La Jolla Symphony Concerto Competition, American Protégé Musical Talent Competition, MTAC Concerto Competition, MTAC VOCE Competition, and Satori Strings Festival. As the principal cellist of the San Diego Youth Symphony’s and San Diego Youth Cello Quartet, he has collaborated numerous times with the San Diego Museum of Art through the youth symphony’s Musical ArtStops program, and his recordings have been featured on national radio. He is currently under the tutelage of Ruslan Biryukov, whom he has studied with for over five years.
