I’ve spent years avoiding polar bears in the Arctic… Now I'm Face to Face With Them! Thanks to wildlife advocate, conservationist, and all round great guy, ‪@kylethomas‬ , I got a behind-the-scenes look at how these incredible animals live at ‪@jimmysfarmandwildlifeparktv‬ ! And I get it. You might be wondering.. How can polar bears possibly live in the UK? And WHY are they here? 🧊 Their expansive enclosure is designed to keep them cool, active, and mentally stimulated. It's got 5 aches of shaded woodland as well as two tundra-like space, large shaded dens, 3 deep pools, environmental enrichment and cool inside area. It's also the largest polar bear sanctuary in Europe. 🌡️ And incredibly, on the day we filmed, it was hotter in Hudson Bay (one of their wild Arctic homes) than it was here in Suffolk. Even in this British heatwave. 🌏 Hudson Bay proudly holds the title of “the polar bear capital of the world,” with its average temperature resting at a relatively warm 26°C. To put it in perspective, the average temperature in Suffolk is 22°C, making it a tad cooler by comparison. 🐾 Of the four polar bears: • One was rescued from a closing down zoo in Sweden • The other three are part of the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), helping safeguard the future of the species None of them can be returned to the wild for a number of reasons but here, they’re healthy and safe. They are cared for by a passionate team. Seeing them up close was humbling.
