United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is launching a new report, “Transnational Organized Crime in Southeast Asia: Evolution, Growth and Impact.” The discussion will be opened by Senator and former Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Junthong, Ambassador of Australia Mr Allan McKinnon and United States Chargé d'Affaires, Peter Haymond, and UNODC Regional Representative Jeremy Douglas will provide an overview of the report and key findings. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is announcing a new report, “Transnational Organized Crime in Southeast Asia: Evolution, Growth and Impact” Thursday 18 July 2019, starting at 11:00 AM at the FCCT. The last time an analysis of this nature was published was over five years ago, and the situation has changed significantly since. The report provides a unique and powerful baseline for understanding the scale and mechanics of organized crime and related illicit activity in Southeast Asia, how it is connected to neighbouring countries and regions, and as well as recommendations for the region to consider in response. It is expected that it will contribute to significant policy discussions and debate in the coming months as the region seeks to reconsider how to address the problem of transnational organized criminal activity, including as part of the Thailand ASEAN Chairmanship 2019. The discussion will be opened by Senator and former Deputy Prime Minister Prajin Juntong, Ambassador of Australia Allan McKinnon, United States Chargé d’ Affaires Peter Haymond, and UNODC Regional Representative Jeremy Douglas will provide an overview of the report and key findings.
