In this video a short test about the Warm Audio EQP WA, very nice and versatile passive valve EQ with more frequencies selection than the original Pultec EQP1A. WARMAUDIO EQP-1A LEGEND IS BACK? The Warm Audio EQP-WA is based on the legendary Pultec EQP-1A. The sonic quality has been carefully considered by using top-end components such as CineMag transformers and premium tubes. This fully two-bands discrete Tube EQ can pull euphoric sonics from any track and bring a brilliance to mixes that’s nearly impossible to achieve inside-the-box. Here at Eufonica’s studios we jumped back to the classic roundness sound by choosing this amazing Eq. HOW IS IT MADE? The Warm Audio engineers conceived the EQP-WA with some differences from the original EQP-1A. Since it’s 2U-rack maybe is more similar to the version 1A3. They added five frequency points for greater flexibility. With its 12AX7 and 12AU7 tubes it can give your tracks the massive bass, silky air, and addictive warmth that made the original a studio standard. LET’S TAKE A LOOK !!! FRONT PANEL LOW FREQUENCY SECTION The low-frequency section is a shelving EQ, providing seven selectable frequency bands at 20, 30, 60 100, 200, 400 and 800Hz (three more, comparing to the original). You can boost these frequencies to a maximum of 12 dB and attenuated (cut) by 18 dB. Also you can discover interesting (and useful) equalization curves by simultaneously boosting and cutting at the same time, as the boost and cut frequencies overlap. This has become known as the ‘low-end trick’. HIGH FREQUENCY SECTION The high-frequency section features a boost-peaking EQ and offers seven centre frequencies – at 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 12 and 16kHz – that you can boost by up to 18dB, while a Bandwidth control alters the Q of the equalization curve from sharp to broad. You can also cutthe high frequencies at 3, 4, 5, 10 and 20kHz (two more, comparing to the original). This is a shelf-cut with up to 14dB of attenuation available. The EQ section is bypassable but signal still passes through tubes and transformers for warming effect. REAR PANEL The Warm Audio EQP-WA is equipped with both XLR and ¼ inch TRS balanced inputs and outputs. It has a “Tube gain adjust”. This control provides for approximately 6db of adjustable gain in the tube makeup amplifier, generally between -3 and +3 db. This will allow us to use the eq in creative ways. Pulling down the tube gain lower, bus material can benefit of the slightly improved headroom and transparency. Conversely, pulling up the tube gain higher, solo instruments and vocals can benefit of the added tube roundness and girth. PERFECT CLONE? Yes!!! The EQP-WA, with an excellent value for money, is the perfect clone of one of most popular equalizers: the Pultec Eqp-1a. Many top studio recording used to have Pultec and you can heard it on literally thousands of recordings made over the past 60 years. E.g. Motown owned several units and used them for everything, from tracking individual instruments and voices to equalizing the final mix at the mastering stage. MIDIWARE is the Italian official distributor.
