"Mad World", first released in 1982 by Tears for Fears, but here performed by Jasmine Thompson in 2017, explores alienation, emotional numbness, existential sadness, and quiet despair. While the original version carries an ironic contrast between upbeat instrumentation and introspective lyrics, Jasmine Thompson’s interpretation transforms the song into something more fragile and intimate. Her stripped-down, piano-driven arrangement removes distance and irony. The sadness is no longer observational — it becomes deeply personal. This video follows that emotional shift. Instead of dramatic symbolism, I chose a realistic, cinematic photography style to reflect the quiet restraint in her voice. The visual narrative moves from the structured adult world — routines, repetition, anonymity — into childhood memories shaped by invisibility and quiet resignation. The recurring theme is not chaos, but emotional disconnection within familiar systems. AI-generated imagery was used intentionally in this project. The song speaks about repetition, structure, and a world that feels mechanical — and using AI as a creative tool subtly mirrors that modern “constructed” reality. At the same time, AI allowed me to carefully shape mood, lighting, and atmosphere to match the softness and vulnerability of this version. This is not meant as a literal illustration of the lyrics, but as a visual interpretation of the emo-tional arc: routine → awareness → origin → quiet recognition. If you watch closely, you may notice visual echoes between childhood and adulthood — sug-gesting that the “mad world” is not a sudden realization, but something that quietly forms over time. Thank you for watching. MAD WORLD All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for the daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere Their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression Hide my head I wanna drown my sorrow No tomorrow, no tomorrow I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I′m dying Are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you I find it hard to take When people run in circles it′s a very, very Mad world Mad world Children waiting for the day they feel good Happy birthday, happy birthday And I feel the way that every child should Sit and listen, sit and listen Went to school and I was very nervous No one knew me, no one knew me Hello teacher tell me, what's my lesson? Look right through me, look right through me And I find it kind of funny I find it kind of sad The dreams in which I'm dying Are the best I′ve ever had I find it hard to tell you I find it hard to take When people run in circles It′s a very, very Mad world Mad world Mad world Mad world
