Brownells Gun Tech™ Caleb Savant answers a question that trips up even seasoned AR-15 builders and shooters: How do you tell the disconnector spring from the bolt catch spring? You don't realize how much they look alike until you've got them out of the gun... and now you can't remember which is which. They are NOT interchangeable! The disconnector spring has one end that's flared out to a wider diameter than the other end. That flared end goes in the trigger itself. It fits tight, so when you tip the trigger assembly upside down, the disconnector spring will not fall out. Don't put it in upside down or the disconnector won't work properly. Likewise, if you accidentally install the disconnector spring in the bolt catch, the bolt catch will not function correctly. So locate that flared end first, and you'll be sure to get the right spring in the right place!
