Plein Air Line and Wash in Lavenham, Suffolk | Urban Sketching

Last week we had the first dry, sunny day after lots of rain, so I finally got to sit outside and sketch again — this time in beautiful Lavenham, Suffolk, one of Britain’s best-preserved medieval villages. In this video I’m sharing a relaxed plein air urban sketching session using a line and wash approach, drawing directly on location in the main square. The view wasn’t exactly perfect (the square is also a car park!), but that’s one of the things I love about urban sketching — capturing what’s really there. Lavenham is full of wonky timber-framed buildings, crooked rooflines, and endless sketching inspiration, so it was the perfect place to spend time drawing outdoors. I was also visiting Lavenham to drop off a new batch of my coasters at the local tourist information shop, after they sold out recently. They’re printed at home from my drawings of local landmarks like the De Vere House and the Crooked House.
