Welcome to week 36 of pregnancy! This week, baby's about the size of George Foreman Grill, or a pineapple. Baby is the size of a bag of Bugles, or a head of Romaine lettuce. Roxanne discusses how week 36 is considered late preterm, and though their lungs should be just about fully formed and ready to work on the outside, she goes over what sort of monitoring may be implemented at a hospital if baby were to be born this week. Baby may begin to descend and engage in the pelvis more, causing increased pressure as well as that classic pregnancy waddle walk. Lastly, baby’s protective layers of vernix and lanugo are falling off now, and being consumed by baby to help make that first meconium poop! For expectant mothers, Roxanne discusses increased discomforts if baby does engage and descend in the pelvis, changes and increases to vaginal discharge, and the role of the mucous plug and what it means to lose it at this point in pregnancy. She also gives tips on how to distinguish between what is vaginal discharge and what is amniotic fluid (meaning your water broke!). Additionally, Gina shares about her last prenatal appointments and that her iron levels have doubled since she started taking the Needed Iron supplement. She has also had much better sleep quality this week, which may be attributed to using magnesium lotion at bedtime. Comment below to let us know how YOU are feeling this week! Or comment below to guess when Gina will actually go into labor!!
