You mentioned that you have a two and a half year old little girl who seems to stutter a little bit or say "Ah" or "Um" or has to wait for her mouth to catch up to her brain. You did say it was especially noticeable when she's excited. This is really normal for any of us especially a child who is just first learning how to develop their thoughts into words and into sentences. Stuttering usually only lasts for a few months and usually disappears by the time a child is four years of age. If it doesn't disappear by the time she's four or especially if it's accompanied with body ticks, talk with a doctor and they can decide if further investigation or treatment is warranted. When she starts to do it encourage her by maybe finishing her sentences if it takes a while or giving her new words that she might be looking for. Of course continue to build her vocabulary by talking out loud with her a lot even if you're not talking directly to her say your thoughts out loud and continue to read to her and point things out and say what they are. Her vocabulary will continue to grow.
