Locomotive 3801 was manufactured in 1943 as the first of 30 38 class streamlined steam locomotives built to haul express and long distance trains in NSW. The 3801 was possibly best known for the Newcastle Express services. After a 12-year overhaul from 2008 to 2020, Locomotive 3801 was relaunched on 12 March 2021.
