Sky News host Sharri Markson has commented on the “major backlash” today with the news that hundreds of pubs across the country threatened to ban Australia Day celebrations. The hospitality company which controversially banned celebrating Australia Day at more than 200 venues across the nation has been forced to backflip after intense scrutiny. “The owners – a private equity firm based in Asia – claimed our national day causes sadness and hurt,” Ms Markson said. “This was outrageous – you don't boycott our national day. “It's the fastest way ever to kill off business and the company had to learn this the hard way when they were forced to backtrack this evening and issue a grovelling apology to customers.”
