Doctor told me not to play drums for at least 45 days and that made me really sad. Once at home, I thought to myself that I should find the way to do something on drums that does not involve my right arm (the “good” one, if I have any…) which of course hurts a lot and needs to be completely tied, for what I have to ware a sling the entire day. Trying to figure out what I could do, because I would not be 45 days without playing but on the other hand I need to have a good recovery to be able to play again without pain, the most inspirational drummer that could be on earth come to my mind, the great Rick Allen. For any distracted one out there, Rick lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984 when he was already a famous drummer and had recorded several albums with Def Leppard. Nothing stopped him to continue playing drums, when most people would have quit, he managed to do it with just one arm. I guess that when you are born with a disability you do your own way in the process, but loosing an arm when you are a grown man, that must be really tough. Rick is the meaning of inspiration for any drummer in the world, this is a respectful tribute for such a great drummer that did not quit… the song is “Love Bites”. I did my best to play it, it was definitely a challenge that made me feel 5% of what Rick must have suffered. I hope you enjoy it and understand the purpose of this tribute. Haters are everywhere and I hope they don’t take this is as a joke, this is the way I found to do something, motivated by someone else’s story of life.
