On March 10, 2023, during Problem Gambling Awareness Month, Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling (FCCG) Executive Director Jennifer Kruse presented to the Florida Gaming Control Commission about the programs and services FCCG provides throughout Florida. Commissioner Chuck Drago asks about why Floridians contact the 888-ADMIT-IT HelpLine and what they're looking for when they reach out. Kruse explains that contacts are often in such a place of despair, embarrassment, and shame as a result of the stigma associated with gambling addiction, that they do not know what they want or need, and that's why it's the FCCG's role to connect them with supports customized to their personal situation. Kruse goes on to mention some of the FCCG's programs, including its on-demand Online Program for Problem Gamblers (OPPG), its "A Chance for Change" Recovery Workbooks and other self-help literature, and its Peer Connect Program, where a help seeker can speak with an individual who has been in recovery from problem gambling for many years and can encourage them to take the next step on the path to recovery. Kruse mentions other HelpLine referrals well, including self-help meetings like Gamblers Anonymous and FCCG's network of certified gambling addiction treatment providers, and she explains how FCCG introduced the first-ever credential for gambling addiction treatment providers (CGAC) in 2007, in partnership with the Florida Certification Board.
