Julius Rosenwald was more than the CEO who turned Sears into the Amazon of its day, he was a philanthropist who changed the course of history. Born in Springfield, Illinois, across the street from Abraham Lincoln’s home, Rosenwald carried forward a legacy of justice, equity, and opportunity. From revolutionizing American retail to pioneering the concept of matching grants, his influence reached far beyond business. His partnership with Booker T. Washington led to the construction of more than 5,500 schools for Black children in the segregated South, creating educational opportunities for generations. He funded Harlem Renaissance icons like Langston Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, and Maya Angelou. He founded the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago, not to bear his name, but to belong to the people. And yet, despite his extraordinary legacy, Rosenwald directed his foundation to close after 30 years, believing philanthropy should empower, not enshrine. His name may not be on buildings, but his impact is everywhere. Discover the untold story of a man who gave not for recognition, but for lasting change. Produced by Storyteller Studios, an Emmy® Award-winning video production studio specializing in historic documentaries and cultural storytelling. #JuliusRosenwald #Philanthropy #Education #BlackHistory #HarlemRenaissance #MuseumOfScienceAndIndustry #Sears #BookerTWashington #Documentary #HistoricStorytelling
